Default Azelea Problem

2 azelea's both white flowered, have this year produced a mass of flower

in the same area are fine. Could this just be caused by the heat and dry
ground, or is there something else?

There was a day last week where the wind was so hot and dry with the sun
so scorching that the entire new growth shoots on my long established
beech hedge were left desiccated, dead, brown and crispy. Literally just
like crisps only thinner and more fragile. If conditions could do that
to something as robust as a hedge then flowers could easily be ruined.

BTW My azaleas are long gone now flowered weeks ago in North Yorkshire.
They flowered OK at the start of the dry spell but do get watered with
rainwater from time to time. Rhododendrons are out at the moment - they
seem to be slower to come into flower. Almost got Hydrangea petiolaris
out in full now which heralds the start of summer proper.
