#11. Plumeria rubra [Frangipani]
Thanks a lot for the valuable comments. I thought Frangipani had white
flowers. The plant in photo 11 has pink-ish flowers. Moreover, the
leaves are not as thick and leathery as the white Frangipani tree.
There are 3 species of the Frangipani cultivated in Singapore.
1. Plumeria acuminata - flowers 4-5 cm across, white with a yellow
centre, leaves with pointed tips.
2. Plumeria obtusa (Plumeria alba) the Great Frangipani - flowers
larger and white, leaves with blunt tips.
3. Plumeria rubra, the Common Frangipani - smaller tree with low
branches, flowers red, leaves pointed.
Other hybrids are occasionally seen - resembling the P. rubra with
flowers white, white with yellow centre, and pink.
The photo shot 11 showed Plumeria rubra - a common sight on traffic
islands in Singapore.
