Bamboos like to be kept moist but they also need good drainage too. If
you leave the pots standing in water then the roots are likely to rot
(I speak from experience as this happened to some I had in pots which
I stood in water to avoid having to water them so often). Generally
bamboos are a bit sensitive about being in pots - as well as disliking
being waterlogged they must never, ever, be allowed to dry out
completely either. Best option is to plant them out, but if you want
to keep them in a pot make sure it's a big one to reduce the danger of
drying out completely if you forget to water it for a couple of days.
