As others have noted there are lots of kinds of wasps. If they're yellow
jackets, coming from a hole in the ground, wait till after dark, when
they'll all have gone home, and put a dose of insecticide down the hole,
then stop up the hole. Usually that's all that's necessary.
Occasionally, there'll be more than one entrance. In that case, I'd just
repeat the procedure.
