Default Scorpions in Austin suburbs?

My sister-in-law has had them in both the last two places I helped her move
from and picked up wood in her front yard:

1. Cedar Park at the Leander edge
2. Behind Lake Georgetown

Both yards have been very dry for years. I live in Leander and have for two
years and haven't ever seen one -- but I do water a couple times a month and
so do all the neighbors.

Has anyone had problems with scorpions in the Austin suburbs?

Back in the late 1970s I remember that a friend's house near
Stassney and Nuckols Crossing was unbelievably infested with
scorpions. You would turn on the garage light and see dozens
scatter. Of course this was a new subdivision at the time,
so perhaps the house was on or near a debris pile of some kind.
That house gave me the creeps and I probably spent no more
than 10 minutes there before excusing myself.

On the other hand, my brother in law has lived for several
years in two subdivisions near Slaughter & Brodie, and
says he's never seen 'em.

If you have a scorpion problem: do you have a lush lawn or
exposed dirt and outcroppings in your yard?
