We haven't tried tomato cages but, we did try a couple of years ago
using fence wire. Seemed to work OK at first but then as the weather
warmed up the wire got hot enough to kill the vine tendrils. All in
all it was not a success for us. Perhaps if one used those epoxy
covered tomato cages it would work better but, they seem quite
expensive.
