Well, I have checked up, and here are some facts that our friends
over the pond may have difficulty believing. They can be checked
in any good atlas, or via www.weatherbase.com.

In high summer (June, July and August), Fairbanks has a comparable
average temperature to the north of England (say Manchester or
Leeds). But it has a significantly higher average daytime temperature,
as measured by the average high temperature, days over 70 degrees
Fahrenheit or days over 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In that respect, it
is comparable with the south of England (say Bristol or London).

So, from the point of view of vegetable growing, the fact that
something can be grown in Alaska does not mean that it will thrive
in the UK.
