Alaska, once known as "the icebox of America" (aka "Seward's
Folly") has a certain fame for the enormous veggies that can be
grown there. Not in the whole place, of course, but there are
areas with good soil and enough warmth in summer that the long
days yield a dividend paid in huge cabbages and such.
