Wow, how red! I have seen this red rotala only in pics and I'm more used in
seeing the paler version, like in the first link you gave, in shop tanks.
The color might have to do with the amount of light and iron-based
fertilizers.
My Rotala macranda looks like dominics: taller, less bushy and much redder than
the photo at
http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/show040/s046-0.html.
The local and mail order shops I sell it too have all commented on the intense
red color. One believes it is a slightly different subspecies, since it is less
bushy and has longer distances between the nodes, while others think it is
caused by my tank conditions. My tank has 0.1 ppm Iron, Flourite gravel, a good
fert regimen, pH 6.4, KH2, GH2.
