you could try placing some cut thorny twigs in the affected area. I do this
all the time to keep the cats of the veg plot. I use holly, rose, bramble
etc and just loosely place it on the ground with a rock or two to stop in
being moved.
You could also put some stakes in the ground every 6-8" around the area and
tie some string between them and across the whole area.
