The only thing the two have in common is paired leaves and there's nothing
special about that.

That's not what it is by a long shot.

The most obvious difference is that your Lysimachia nummularia has yellow
flowers and green leaves.

It may be Licorice Plant ( Helichrysum petiolare). Are the leaves

fuzzy?
The plant is increasingly popular and comes in several cultivars

(including
an eye-grabbing bright yellow-green).
