The Korean variety "Miss Kim" (which to me is pungent rather than sweet like
northern lilacs) will bloom here most years (sometimes decently, sometimes
feebly). I have a bush of it in the front yard, but mine is small and slow
growing. You should be able to find it in most specialty nurseries, though
they may only stock it seasonally. Call around and ask.

Good luck! I think I enjoy the IDEA of having a lilac as much as the
reailty, but with Miss Kim, it can be done, and I have seen some very large
old bushes of it locally.

I have one on the north side of the house. I suspect it's been around a
while. We have some neighbors that tried to give us some cuttings from
theirs while we were renting from them.....so it's not the only one
around.
