Default (Chanterelle) pickers protect secrets

Comment by poster: until I read this article, I didn't think the
commercial harvest of mushrooms in the PNW began until 1980. This
seems to indicate that chanterelles, at the least, were being
harvested commercially in Washington in 1976 or so. And it's possible
that morel mushroom harvesting began even earlier than that!

Mmmmm, mushrooms...

It has been a poor shroom season in the rainshadow, but out west it's
good as ever.

Picking chanterelles has always been the off season choice for west
enders. What's not to like? No set hours, no taxes and no boss.

Most years, that's what drives the commercial harvest. This year, one
of the other things that drives the harvest is missing: rain.
