Default OK cats ... it's WAR

I am now on a mission.

We have one access to our property. It is via a gate from the main road,
walking between two properties (an alleyway in effect) towards our garden
then a left turn to our stairs leading to our flat.

Now the problem is that our alley is used as a cat toilet...BIG TIME.

Every
night at least one or two cat dumps would mysteriously appear along the
ally.

We are plagued with at least 6 or 7 cats who use our garden and I have

used
everything over the last year or so to stop them fouling the alleyway.

I have used all the specialised chemical deterrents on the market (powders
and liquid) ... NO GOOD.

I have used bleaches, even Jeyes Fluid and Jeyes Dustbin Powder...NO GOOD.

Bought a high-powered, pump water pistol. Cats used to laugh at that. In
desperation I filled it with a Jeyes solution ... it melted the water
reservoir ... NO GOOD.

I now use two ultrasound cat repellers around and down the alley. It has
cut the crap by about 25% but there are still deaf cats about so ...NO

GOOD.

What do I do now? Summer is upon us and today the alley was full of crap
and swarms of flies.

I'm getting to the point where I want to buy an air rifle but fear this

may
be frowned upon so will not mention it just yet

SERIOUSLY - Anyone know how to build an electric barrier (similar to

cattle
fencing but adjusted voltage for smaller mammals). I am no electronics
expert so I am not too hot on volts and currents.

I will be posting soon re gaining info and experiences in the hope that I
could soon lobby my local council to make a bye-law as per references to

the
Public Health Act 1938 with reference also to the Environmental Protection
Act 1990.

Regards all

MC

Have you tried a physical barrier, something spiky which you can still walk
on, maybe holly cuttings, in my case I tend to put down some fire thin
plastic mesh, which they cannot scratch and thus are not inclined to try and
dump on. What about a gate at either end of the alleyway, and a spiky strip
along the top, or a wobble small piece of trellis, tend to put them off.
There really are a lot of other things to try. As a last ditch effort you
could try supply them with a tray of sand somewhere else, I know, I know
that's why it'sa last ditch effort !!!

Also worth bearing in mind that UK law states that cat owners are not
responsible for their cats, since it's not so straightforward to train them.

Are they dumping straight on to the concrete path, or is there gravel or
soil there, if it's gravel or soil, you might think about replacing it. If
soil covering it. You could plant catnip all along the path, then you'd just
have dozy cats, and a lot less crap.

Ho hum a few ideas.
