Default question on west nile

Hi Greg, I don't know the cause of the vertigo as I fit nearly
all the reasons you listed. Aging is especially bothersome.
Have had it since I was in my
50s so I don't know. Accidents - yep, lots of 'em. Especially bad
since I shot the house with my 12 guage shotgun! I shot
the inside of the house and I was in the house!!! Was like my
head was inside a barrel and someone was hitting the barrel with
a stick ... was only checking to see if I had gotten all the shells out of
the shotgun. Anyway, I haven't been able to hear well and have had
lots of vertigo since this incident. But, I digress ....

I'll make an appointment with my favorite ENT. I just
printed out your diagnosis - to hand over to the doc.
Thanks, Greg.

Nedra there are some vestibular exercises that are quite easy to do, that
can clear up vertigo (depending on its cause of course!) Usual cause is
thought to be dislodgement of small stones (otoliths) that rest on ciliary
hairs in the inner ear, that give you your balance. When they dislodge and
move, they can precipitate the vertigo.
Current thought is following head injury (whiplash is often all it takes

to
precipitate it), aging, etc they sometimes "break free".
The exercises are designed to get them to deposit and lodge in the end of
the canal, and that can eliminate the problem. You need to see an ENT, who
can correctly diagnose the cause in your case, as it could be something
totally different. He/she can then prescribe the appropriate Rx, which
varies based on cause.
Fortunately the vast majority of cases are related to the above and quite
benign, though they can be quite debilitating at times, as anyone who has
had it can testify.
Later,
Greg

Bonnie ... I hate to shatter any of your ideas but I love getting
up on the ladder to do work like changing the spot lights!
With the vertigo I have I should take better care than I do ;-)
Thanks for your concern though sweetie.

That sounds much better. I had a picture of you
climbing a ladder - it scared me!
