Default Cuttings from laylandii

Hi all,

My partner Wendy and i are moving out to live in spain shortly. She has
some large laylandii at the foot of the garden which were given as

presents
from her brother who is now sadly dead, Is there any way that we could

take
a cutting from them as Wendy feels a little sad at having to leave them.?
( Sentimental value ).

I thought about taking a root cutting, will this be ok?

Thanks for your help in this matter.

Regards

Bill.

I am doubtful about the viability of root cuttings. I've successfully taken
a number of green cuttings from dwarf / slow growing conifers, presumably
the dreaded leylandii should be similar? I took healthy looking cuttings
about 8 inches long; tore off the greenery on the bottom four inches back to
the stem; dipped this into hormone rooting compound and put two or three
cuttings into 8" plastic pots with a well draining mixture of soil and sharp
grit. Keep moist and away from strong sunlight for the first six months. A
North facing position is ideal. After about a year roots will start to
emerge from the bottom of the pots. Split and plant as required.
