Default Determining Amount of Calcite

So I did some more research on using Calcite to clear the clay from my pond.

The info I have gathered says that you should use 1000-2000 lbs. of calcite
per acre of surface area to clear clay. So minimally, that is 1000lbs. per
43,560 sq. ft. My pond has approx. 130 sq. ft of surface area, so I figure I
need about 3lbs to clear my pond.

Does this sound right?
Has anyone done this?
Any ideas what else Calcite will do to my water? plants? fish? critters?

I can't find a pro's/con's list anywhere.
