In the area where I live, it is common for builders to remove all top soul
before building houses. They make a bit of a profit on it. The end result is
a yard made of hard, concrete like clay. As I was digging my pond (this is
my first season) I knocked a lot in to the pond, and then weeks of
torrential downpours added more.
