Default Bean plants "disappearing"

I had the same thing happen one year. I felt it was squirrels. When I dug
around, I found all the seeds gone. I replanted, but I covered each hill of
seeds with chicken wire in two layers. The first was just chicken wire. The
second layer was the same, but I used wire cutters to cut some wires and
bend them upward. No more problems with disappearing plants. And, the holes
in the chicken wire are big enough so it can be lifted off carefully without
hurting the plants.

I planted several rows of Roma beans in a heavily mulched area (I live in

NJ).

One row seems to be doing fine, but the other row, one by one, is

disappearing.
It seems to be from underground. Could moles be doing this, or is it a
chipmunk. I never had it happen quite like this before (they took my

geranium
and chomped it from under the ground also).

Is there anything I can use to prevent this from happening?
