Default Lawn (new) What to Do?

Hi

We just moved in to a new home that has the beginning of a lawn. Well,
not actually a lawn yet. It was seeded with Kentucky Blue Grass and
some kind of perennial seed. It also has straw on top of it. Lots of
rocks and stones still left all over the place. Some grass is starting
to pop through, however, still lots of dirt and empty spots. We need
help!

What do we do in order to get a nice looking lawn? If it helps, we are
in the state of Maryland.

You can reseed the bare areas right now. I've had good luck putting down
seed and then putting down weed fabric right over the top of it. I've
never used the cheap black fabric and fear it may get too hot. I use the
white fabric with good success. Peg the fabric down loosely and water
well. Keep well watered for 5 days or so and with a little luck the seed
should be sprouted. Once sprouted remove the fabric. Check the seed daily
untill sprouted.
In the fall you may wish to over-seed the lawn again and fertilize. If you
mow the lawn at the correct hight (3 inches..?), fertilize 2 to 3 times a
year and make sure the lawn gets 1 inch of water per week... it should
look great for a good long time.
Hope your enjoying the new house and lawn.
