Default japanese beetle distraction

Interesting. I have found a way to keep japanese beetles from my roses
and crepe myrtles. Or at least keeping their numbers down enough to
keep them from totally destroying the plants. Variegated porcelain
vine. I have a couple growing on a fence and this is the first year
they have had any real size to them and the beetles seem to like them
better than anything else on my property. Even my raspberries are
virtually beetle-free. The beetles totally ruined my crepe myrtles
last year but this year I can pick off most of the ones that I see on
them because they are flocking to these vines. Sure, the vines look
like crap but I would rather they be attacked than my roses and
shrubs. Plus the fence is low enough that I can pick beetles from the
vines rather easily, where it is impossible on the upper half of the
16+ feet tall crepe myrtles.

I hate that the beetles decided to come visit me. Last year was the
first year I had to deal with them and this year they are just as bad.
Oh well. I had hoped last year was a fluke, but I guess they are here
to stay.
