Default [IBC] Sudden Mapple Death

Just the same thing's happened to me, with a Bloodgood too, a
month ago!!!!
And first branches which died were the wired ones, too!!

Verticillium wilt enters via the roots, then travels up the trunk
to the branches and leaves. It stands to reason that in an
infected tree, one of the already stressed limbs would show it
first.

Wiring will not kill the tree; there is a remote -- read,
REMOTE -- possibility that the branch was bent so severely that
the bark broke and allowed some animicule ingress that way, but I
can't think what it might be (NOT anthracnose, the other common
maple ailment) and why (or how) it would end up killing the
entire tree.

'sustainable growth' is an oxymoron. - Stephen Viederman
