Default An orchid success story

While visiting Kauai in 1996 I purchased Brassia gireoudiana from Kauai
Orchids. I picked out a plant showing a flower spike so I could see my
purchase bloom when I arrived home. I carried the plant on the plane. When
it bloomed it was so fragrant in the evenings. When the blooms faded I
added the gireoudiana to my other brassias and oncidiums.

Each year I'd take it outdoors to bask in the summer humidity. Each winter
it came back indoors under lights. It endured the squirrels checking out
the pot to see what I had planted under it. (Damn tree rats). Last year
they uprooted the plant and I repotted it in two different pots this time.

Well, I am happy to say that after 7 years without blooms, today I
discovered two flower spikes on one of the plants! The other plant is still
growing out the 2003 growth and may still bloom later in the summer.

It pays to be patient.

Good growing,
Gene
