I use the clamps in the pond. Have three in use right now.
It must depend on the chemical content of your pond ;-)

WARNING - Those metal hose clamps with a screw that tightens the clamp
will rust - I know this from
experience. Do not let these clamps touch your pond water. A better
solution would be to adapt the
pump's 1" hose connection to accept PVC pipe.
