just out of interest what sort of awfulness?

The blinking thing was grown from a seed and was ENORMOUS in a very
short time...... NOT slow growing. It also split really easily if the
was a strong wind and boughs kept breaking and falling on the hedge.
The fruit stained anything it touched and fell everywhere and the roots
are vine like, thick and yellow and grow right across the garden, up
under the greenhouse, and the whole tree rose in the lawn about 2 foot
so that you can't get the lawn mower over the grass.
It didn't get leaves until very very late in the year and lost them
first of all, they were huge leaves and blew everywhere and too ages to
rot down.
Besides that what a lovely tree, hardly any insects of birds liked it
..........
