Default [IBC] ADMIN: Please read the manual

It's kinda silly posting this, because the ones (mostly) who need
it haven't joined yet, but maybe it'll help when you join other
mailing lists.

In the last day or two, I've gotten several (8, I think) messages
from some (4, I think) new subscribers. They were trying to send
them to the mailing list -- -- but _I_
got them via
, which is where
text messages sent to
go.
Presumably, the senders got an error message with some rather
terse instruction on the proper way to send to a mailing list.
At least two people didn't bother to read the error, but repeated
it.

However, the point of all this is that when you join a mailing
list -- ANY mailing list, no matter what software it operates
under -- you will get at least one welcome message in return (2
from us -- one from Listserv and the other from me) that tells
you the proper way to send a message and how to send the software
commands to modify your subscription, or sign off, etc.

Please read these. Then save them in a special folder created
for list trivia.

To repeat (in very brief summary) part of the Listserv welcome
message:

is for commands sent to the list --
subscribe, signoff, nomail, get, etc. (If you want a list of all
legal commands, use (no quotes) "get listserv refcard".)

is for messages to the list as a whole
(and to the news group, too).
