Sounds like he is not long for the world.
They can live up to five years.
If the other one if fat and sassy and this fellow has always been thin I wonder
if he has been getting his fair share of the food.
I have three in a large cookie jar type container. I usually sprinkle the food
in three separate places. So far, so good.
But I did have two in a smaller container and I think one of them died because
of food hogging by the other.
