Default Problems with clematis and hydrangea. Ideas for flowers?

Hi,
I have planted a clematis and climbing hydrangea next to each other
(both have their own fence panel to climb up and across). They are in
complete shade and never get the sun.I think that I have watered them
too much because they don't get the sun,so don't need as much
water. The hydrangea stems have gone brown and the leaves have gone
brown and curled at the edges. The clematis kept getting wilt and I
have ended up with "not much left" after cutting the wilt off.The
clematis looks dead now.The plant is just brown wood sticks coming
from the ground. Will this grow again or should I dig it up?
The hydrangea looks like it is growing because there is fresh green
leaves and the stems above the brown are green.Should I leave this to
keep growing?
What would be the best thing to do with these two plants? I have not
watered them for 1 and 1/2 weeks.I thought I would just leave them and
see what happens. It looks a bit of a mess on that side of the garden
now, so wanted some advice.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions on bright flowers that come out
every year? boarder flowers to brighten up my garden? Also, any other
plants that do well in the shade?
Thanks in advance
