Default [IBC] rooting over rocks question

What is the best way to go about rooting a bonsai over a rock or creating
air roots?

There are chapters in Bonsai books on creating root over rock. Basically you
use a larger pot, put soil in the bottom, put in the rock, place your plant on
top of the rock and spread the roots over the rock, fill the pot with soil
covering roots and rock. As the plant puts down more roots you gradually
exposed more and more of the rock by lowering the soil in the pot.
Now aerial roots are another matter. First they depend upon species. Most
Ficus produce aerial roots, but some do so more than others. High humidity
seems to play a role. One idea is to surround the plant with a wire cage and
fill the wire cage with sphagnum moss.
