I agree, it's probably fertilizer burn, but it's hard to identify lawn
problems with long distance photos as the only clue.
It is never a good idea to apply fertilizer in hot weather. Many lawn
diseases and fungus are encouraged by high nitrogen, water and
sunlight.
I only apply fertilizer once in the spring and twice in the fall. Of
these, the fall is the most important.
