The message
from "Pete" contains these words:
Thanks to the local squirrel population several peanuts appear to have taken
root in my garden (London area). Does anyone know if they are they likely to
produce a crop?
The flower head, when fertilised, bends down on its stalk and buries
itself ostrich-like in the soil, where the groundnuts ripen. If they do,
don't eat them. Unless grown in the proper conditions they can get
infected with a mould which is highly toxic, and often fatal if
ingested.
