Default Topping Silver Birch trees

Just wondering , I have three silver birch trees in the garden all about 30
ft , what is the best way to top these to about 20 odd ft , is it possible
or will I kill them , I have limited knowledge of trees so any help would be
very much appreciated , Thank you

Carry out any work in winter when the tree is dormant, an at very least
get the advice of a arboriculturalist if not employing one to do the
work. Birch can be thinned/reduced but I'm not sure that I would
recommend topping.. mature heights vary depending on exact species and
soil conditions/locations.. Though 30 ft sounds about right for a true
silver birch..
