Hi Susan, I can't identify any plant by description alone --sounds
like a Doritis or Dtps. But to prevent crown rot: Get Hydrogen
peroxide from the pharmacy or super market. Pour about a teaspoonfull
on the crown of the plant once per week OR___ get some Kocide 101 make
a paste--use a q-tip & paint the inside of the crown with the paste &
you will not get crown rot. Good Luck, Bill
