Default salt again

Around here, our ambient salt level is .02%. You don't taste it, but it's
there - always. This is one of the reasons it is recommended to do water
exchanges, not just to "top off": there are many things in your water that
just become more concentrated with time if there is not an actual EXchange
of water, not just topping it off when it gets low.

Interesting to note that although I have never added salt to my pond I am
getting a reading of 0.01% on my Accu-chek salt tester. The salt content

is
due entirely to salt contained in the tap water used to top up the pond

due
to evaporation. According to the local water supplier, the salt content is
very minute and almost immeasurable and is therefore included in the Total
Dissolved Solids measurement.
All ponders should be aware that even if they don't add salt they should
still test for salt content as a result of continuous top-ups.
