Or, leave those keikis on till they bloom -- they make a spectacular show
that way, and for us, at least they grow to blooming size much faster if not
"prematurely weaned."

Here in hot, humid south Florida, we don't do anything except stake the
spikes to hold the keikis up [our watering is overhead, so the keikis get
watered and fed when the plants do], and wait. In a lower humidity
environment, you might need to stuff a little sphagnum or coco-fiber around
the keiki roots to hold a little more moisture.

Anyway, you wait till the roots are a bit longer then you cut it off with
a
sterile blade and pot it up. You can stake the inflorescence in teh mean
time.

IIRC the rule of thumb is a total of 3 inches of root... so 6 roots @ 1/2
inch or 3 roots @ 1 inch. Something like that.

But remember rules are made to be broken, so if it feels right to pot the
keikis up, do so. Or cut the spike and toss it out, *G*!
