| it
| easily obtainable?ive read its fragrant nice smell or bad?I am thinking
| about trying to buy this plant, any advice would be appreciated. It looks
&
| sounds like a lovely orchid,it has what I like a star shaped bloom &
| fragrant always a bonus,as I love fragrant plants!

| Well, I can't give specific advice as mine won't arrive for another week
or
| two. But I bought it from a chap in Montreal. I am told the fragrance is
| quite strong and pleasant, but that likely will depend on the cultivar and
| variety (the one I'm getting is the flava form).
|
| As for care, in the absence of information to the contrary, I'd assume its
| care is that typical of phals. Of course, that will likely vary depending
| on your own growing conditions: You'd almost certainly have to water more
if
| you're in the Canadian prairies than you would if you're in the temperate
| rainforest of coastal BC. And your use of natural vs artificial light,
and
| how much supplemental light would be needed, will be very different in
| Churchill Manitoba (way up at the treeline between tundra and boreal
forest)
| than it will be in Texas (one of those obscenely hot states to the south
of
| us: it gets too hot anywhere south of Pennsylvania for me to be
comfortable,
| and sometimes even a Toronto summer day is too hot for my taste).
|
| I don't know where you're located, so I can't advise on where to get it,
but
| if you do a search on google, you should find a number of potential
| suppliers, some of which may be close to you. That said, my supplier only
| obtained my cornu-cervi from his supplier because I asked for it, and I
| don't think he'll be placing another order this year (part of this is
| because HIS supplier had almost sold out of everything he had for sale!).
| But he uses a number of suppliers, as you'd expect, so you never know when
| another opportunity will arise. I know two suppliers, one in Toronto and
| the other in Montreal, who prefer to deal in phal species and primary
| hybrids, so if you're in Canada and want to obtain phal species and
primary
| hybrids, send me an email and I will forward your email address to them so
| they can contact you (I could be wrong, but I don't think they export).
| Having bought from both, I know their plants are generally in excellent
| shape. I have yet to get a sickly plant from either. Even those which
they
| advised me to repot ASAP had media in excellent shape and an abundance of
| roots! And sometimes, the plants I received from them had already been
| repotted recently enough that I'd not need to repot them for at least a
| year, or maybe even two (depending on the medium - but until I get a
better
| sense of how long the different media last in my conditions, I'd repot
| annually).
|
| Cheers,
|
| Ted
