Default Autumn Cherry Tree...

What was the fungus like? If it was white and powdery on leaves and buds
then it may have been powdery mildew, which is caused by drought -
specifically: dryness at the roots. This seems feasible with a recently
planted tree.
IF it is mildew, make sure the tree has plenty of water (an occasional
autumn shower is not enough). Stress from drought would cause premature
leaf fall, although leaves will be falling naturally now. If you keep on
top of the watering, your tree should survive the winter. However,
autumn/winter flower buds may have been aborted due to drought or damaged by
the mildew, so don't expect too much this year
It may not be mildew .. perhaps you could describe the fungus.

Hi All,
I have an Autumn flowering cherry tree in the garden, planted earlier this
year. A few weeks back it started showing signs of a fungal infection. I
treated it with a fungus spray, and the spread appears to have stopped,

but
the infected leaves are still dropping.
Is the tree likely to recover after all infected leaves have fallen?

TIA,

Martin.
