Again wire fencing: make a cylinder taller than the tree.
use a size with smaller openings than a deers muzzle
so they cant stick their nose thru.
Wire fencing is so useful, I can't figure why so many people
don't use it.

Keeps squirrels away from bulbs
Makes great plant support cylinders (great for peonies)
Compost bin
Tomato cages
Keeps pets/kids out of areas where you don't want them
Trellis, vine support
Portable, easy to cut, and bendable
