Default [IBC] Acer palmatum "Bloodgood", was Why Mulch ??

Funny you should mention premature budding Sam, my mothers 30 foot Bloodgood
is already covered in new buds. We've had rather strange weather here in the
NE for the past month.
A month ago it was well below freezing for two weeks, then we had two weeks
of near spring time weather with highs in the 70's and lows in the 60's.

I certainly hope this hasn't confused the trees.
Sure has confused me !!

So my findings is that they can survive cold pretty well, but the drying
effects of wind, and the stress from freeze-thaw cycles or being tricked
into thinking it is springtime prematurely does the real damage.
