meadow tulips at Highgrove are replanted regularly.

Cheating! But I wonder if we *can* naturalise them in this country

Er, I must be doing something right :-). I have a couple of tulips
here that I inherited with the house 25 years ago. They have receive
no attention apart from very occasional water and fertiliser.

I had no idea that it was cruel to leave tulips out over winter your
honour! I thought everybody did! I suppose it's a new EC regulation?
:-)

I remember a particular tulip from a neighbour's garden, from when I
was, perhaps, 7 or 8. (OK, accepted, I was a weird kid...)

Went back there this year: tulip still going strong. (clearly not
Ground Force fans in that house!) I asked: it's the same plant.

Dunno the variety, but it's one of those bright red ones, tall,
blue-green leaves, yellow base, black 'centerpiece' whatyecallit.
Classic tulip, in other words. Only one of it. Positioned against a
brick wall in Swansea.

I have found 'Aladdin' good the second and 3rd years, though we weren't
at that house long so dunno if they are still going.
