In my garden there is a rose which has a delightful scent
and a wonderful
display in May.
It looks like an old fashioned rose but I am not sure of
what is its name,
since it has been in the garden before I bought the house
thirty years ago.
It's about 8 feet high and has arched branch with a lot of
thin thorns.
Leaves are typical rose leaves, in group of five.
The rose blooms only once a year and flowers are very
scented (classic rose
scent).
When touched, leaves and sepals releases a resin aroma.
Would you help me give this rose a name ?
Thanks

I cannot identify the rose but I did do a search at
www.helpmefind.com/roses using the following criteria
(plugged into Custom Search):
Bloom cycle - once-blooming
Color - pink-blend or rose-pink
Bloom form - full or moderately full
The response to the search was a one-page list of roses.
Some of the names are alternate names for the same rose, so
the list is actually shorter than it looks. As an example,
Bourbon Queen looks kind of like yours, and there is more
than one name for that rose.
You might try the search yourself and check some of the
other rose names. There are a limited number of rose
classes that are once-blooming (among species & old garden
roses), which should help you narrow the search.
By the way, it helps to know where you are (approximate
geographic location) since rose performance can be affected
by temperature, humidity, etc.
Good luck.
