Default Fitting in a Clumping Bamboo

"John Keller" wrote in message ...
We are looking for a type of clumping bamboo to use as a privacy screen next
to our pool enclosure. We are in zone 10 and have an area about 24" wide
and 10 feet long to plant in. We would want something that grows very
thickly, is about 6 to 15 feet tall and would prefer something colorful.
The area is shaded in the late afternoon. I guess that if this group cannot
offer suggestions, no one will be able to. ;-) What would you suggest?

By limiting it to a clumping bamboo, you are limiting what you can fit
in the area you describe. Most of the bamboo's that are in the size
you are looking for are running bamboo's. However, there are some
clumpers that will be close to what you are looking for, any of the
Bambusa Multiplex's should do well. Alphonse Karr is a very colorful
bamboo, yellow with green stripes, or silverstripe which is green with
white stripes.

There is also the option of planting a larger clumping bamboo and then
topping it at the desired height, this will give you many more
options, but a little more work.

Here is a link to a Bamboo hobbyist email list, there is also a list
on Topica.com below it.
