Now, that /really/ depends on how you feel about termites. You could
look at your stump as a convenient early warning (or decoy) system for
your house, if it's near enough to your house, as termites will prefer
damp rotting wood to the (hopefully) dry solid wood that your house is
made of.

Don't beleive the paranoia of the pest controlers. It's in their
interest to give you a worst case scenario.
