Of course it was never really free, we all paid for your map
whether we
wanted it or not. These days, we would all pay for the map
whether we
wanted it or not, and you would have to pay for it a second
time to actually
get one. :-)

Actually, you CAN'T get one.

And, have you ever stopped to figure what your _individual_
contrubution to the total cost (R&D, printing, handling and
postage) of the map was back then? Something on the order of
$0.0000000001 per XXX copies.

For a while (back in the 80s), you still paid that $0.0000000001
AND $8.00+ to purchase a copy for yourself.

Today, they don't make paper copies and you STILL pay
$0.0000000001 (or maybe 2 because of inflation) for the ability
to squint at a 17-inch, blurry, pixillated copy on a web page.
