How's everyone else faring? We have had what were forecast as gales but
must be storm force at least in the gusts. In fact, we closed the Nursery
at 3pm because several panes of glass have crashed in on the little
conservatory and just as 3 customers walked down the big double greenhouse,
a huge guest of wind made the whole thing expand and contract and a pane of
glass crashed to the floor from about 17 feet up.

It's Beaufort 9 in Zuid Holland at the moment.

We have had negligible wind, and it has been fairly warm (-4 Celcius),
but there were a couple of days with treacherous travelling conditions.
Cambridge is, however, in the lee of almost every hill the south of
the UK possesses.

We weren't promised any gales and we didn't get any. Heavy rain
alternating with drizzle but not too bad. I made it down to the compost
heap without having to put a mac on, and was able to spot our first
grape hyacinth flower.

Hoping to walk in the Dales tomorrow (with rain *and* snow melt it's not
a weekend for caving).
