If you are near enough to the sea, I think one of the dwarf Mediterranean
fan palms would survive in a pot - especially if you could move it indoors
for an overnight if it threatened to get into the teens (fahrenheit - I
think that would be about minus 6 C. ) They are grown that way in places
like Seattle in the US, I know.
