I have a modest growing ground. I have my gardener
take a sharp shovel and cut one side of the roots on a
quarterly basis. Ocassionally I have him do an
undercut. This usually leaves a couple of long roots
under the center of the tree, but also develops a more
compact root ball in the lateral roots.
