Default Why do people collect mushrooms early in the morning?

The message
from (Larry Stoter) contains these words:

Generally though, mushrooms first emerge overnight and, as has been
mentioned, if you aren't first, you won't get any. Although, several
varieties - parasol, cep - can take several days to mature. If you're
sure nobody else is going to grab them, it is usually best to wait.

Old wives' tale. All mushrooms emerge over a period and can take many
days to get to a noticeable size.

What is fairly rapid is the opening of the cap, especially as a result
of a warm night followed by a heavy dew, allowing the fungus to absorb
and use water quickly.

Then you find a wide cap because it's visible from a distance, and
discover lots of smaller ones nearby. But overnight it isn't.
