Thanks Chookie, it is a grafted gum. its looking very sick.
The summer red is flowering like mad........

I used a little dynamic lifter on it. about a foot away from the trunk.
Dug in well.

When I get the new one (Orange Splendour) as I said, I just wack it in.

No, no dynamic lifter either. Once it's over the shock, maybe some blood

bone, but I wouldn't give it anything till it starts growing. If it's a
grafted WA gum like Summer Beauty (mine has finally flowered after last
week's
rains -- gorgeous!), it will prefer good drainage.
