I keep my low maintenance garden clean and tidy but apart from that I am

I have in the past constructed a few banjos myself and next winter
would like to construct a copy of an early New Orleans banjo with the
sound board constructed around a gourd. It would be super if I could
grow the Gourd myself hence my logging on here.
Can anyone tell me :

Where I can obtain seeds
Growing conditions - in door or out door soil acidity etc

One of the better ones is the bottle gourd, Lagenaria vulgaris, but
it needs rather more heat than the UK gets to do well. If you
start it early, grow it in very rich soil in a very warm spot
(preferably under glass), keep it well watered when growing, and
keep it down to one fruit, you may be successful.

They need a fair amount of space, unfortunately, so a cloche will
not do :-(

Try Chilterns seeds.
